It is with great pleasure that we announce the merger of Burkhalter Law and De la Cruz Law, effective immediately.
De la Cruz Law specializes in Estate Planning and Elder and Small Business law. The firm was founded by Cherish De la Cruz who recognized the frequency in which family and small business laws overlap, especially for first-and second-generation American families. A native of Toronto, Cherish graduated from University of Western Ontario with honors before obtaining her law degree from the University of Iowa. She is a member of the State Bar of Georgia Bar, the Florida Bar, the Atlanta Bar Association, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, WealthCounsel and the Georgia Asian Pacific American Bar Association.
Cherish was inspired to pursue a legal career after bearing witness to the struggles her parents experienced upon emigrating from the Philippines without the opportunity to secure proper legal structure. She began her career as a Public Defender in Florida, where she learned to proactively navigate the probate system and discovered the importance of avoiding the expense and stress of going to court over routine estate matters. In 2006, Cherish moved to Atlanta and took the position of Senior Counsel and Anti-Money Laundering Officer for Primerica, a publicly traded investment and insurance company. During her seven years there, Cherish gained expertise in supporting both small businesses and individuals, and working collaboratively with financial advisors for the benefit of her clients. She then founded De la Cruz Law, which has remained a thriving practice. Together with her team, Cherish created the Advisor Collaboration Project to a bring a client’s trusted advisors – such as a financial planners, CPAs, or insurance agents – together to seamlessly coordinate a comprehensive strategy. Cherish is passionate about her commitment to the community and is involved in Catholic Charities Leadership, Gwinnett Leadership, What Women Want Networking and the Exit Planning Exchange.
This merger will enable us to provide a new and broader set of legal services and increases our collective breadth to encompass various legal issues our clients may encounter. We greatly look forward to strengthening our relationship with clients as we begin this new venture.
